Rickie Lee Jones at the Big Top

We went to a Rickie Lee Jones concert on Saturday (July 30) (Click on "Rickie Lee Jones concert" to see video on YouTube). This was an event at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua just outside of Bayfield.

From May through September, for the past 24 years, a big top tent in this area has been the venue for performances by musicians of local and national renown as well as shows about such subjects as the Great Lakes lighthouses and keepers. 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of this Upper Midwest cultural tradition that is modelled after travelling tent shows that first began in the late 1800s offering educational lectures and entertainment.

The show began at 8:00 p.m. but we left Hayward on Saturday morning so we'd have time to visit Bayfield where an art festival was taking place on both Saturday and Sunday. All kinds of artists were showing their work in small tents near the marina. I bought a small watercolor of a blue heron to add to my collection.
When we first arrived at Bayfield, we had lunch at "Maggie's," a restaurant in a bright pink and yellow building with an abundance of pink flamingo decor inside.

After the concert, we camped in our van on the shore of Lake Superior and woke up early the next morning to a beautiful sunrise.
