30 Days of Biking - Day 18 (and a ski on the side)

Today started with a ski on the Birkie Trail with my Ski & Tea buddies. After the recent storm that dumped over a foot of snow in the area, the trails were in great shape. So, I decided to take advantage of the good conditions and go for a ski. It was a beautiful day to be outside.
It was another short ride today, about 5 miles, in the late afternoon. I took the fat bike as I wasn't sure if the roads would be clear of snow. They were.
I've heard rumors that this old railroad bridge over the river may be part of a bike trail in the works.

I saw Common & Hooded Mergansers on the Namekagon River and a herd of at least 15-20 deer browsing in a field off a quiet, dead-end road.
The deer were browsing in the field beyond this stand of trees. I see deer quite often when I ride to this spot. I think the stand of trees may provide good shelter for them.

  1. You have had a lot of wildlife in your photos recently. I always enjoy your posts! There is an old saying that talks about grass growing under a persons feet. I am of the opinion that there is no grass growing under your feet. Excellent!

  2. Thanks, Roger! I enjoy photographing wildlife. The camera I'm using has an optical zoom that's the equivalent of about a 500mm lens. It makes getting decent shots easier when the wildlife is far away and one risks disturbing them by trying to get closer.
